Entrepreneur and philosophy graduate Chester Mojay-Sinclare's company “Stardust Ashes”, offers to send ashes into space in a meteorological balloon and release them in the stratosphere for under £4,950.

Ashes will be placed in a biodegradable urn and a “trade secret” mechanism will release them 90,000 feet above the earth. The inspiration came from Mojay-Sinclare’s project “Spudnik” last year, which involved a potato dressed as Father Christmas being sent into space in the balloon. A family friend then suggested it could be translated into a device for scattering ashes.

The balloon was used to scatter Chester’s grandmother, Pat Sinclare’s remains after she died in January aged 82. Mojay-Sinclare described the experience as “powerful” and “symbolic”, stating that “it was a wonderful way to say goodbye. I miss her deeply, but to commemorate her life in this special way made all the difference.”
